ATELIER INTERNATIONAL ART GROUP

Was founded in 1997 by Carole Jones in New York City in SOHO.  It was originally located at 594 Broadway, and moved into a 2500 square foot space in East Harlem  at 104 East 126th Street in December of 2002. The Gallery focused on contemporary works of art by international artists.  Presentation of exhibitions were focused on making a difference within the community, nationally  and international for creative thinking in the arts for a better world view in our ever changing universe.

In the year, 2005 Atelier International Art Group has closed its New York location, and revised its mission in artisan community in a more global sense.  It is now a space without boundaries.  With it the cerebral location it occupies is a space where ever there is a need and an international address that hovers on a web address.

Carole Jones, director of Atelier has 20 years of introducing international artists which began in Chicago, Illinois at East West Gallery in 1986 in the famous River North District.  She introduced Chinese contemporary art with  immerging artist at the time:  Zhou Brothers, Shan Shan Sheng and Weiliang Zhou.  It was with spirit and overwhelming belief that these unique artists held a pivotal play in the coming years to be accomplished artists that would spring around the globe.  With the fire of 1989 in Chicago, she moved to the Merchandise Mart in Chicago due to the gift of the Kennedy family to those galleries that had suffered in the fire.  East West Gallery stayed for two years at the Mart before heading back to River North and then the gallery evolved as Carole Jones Gallery.  From there it moved to New York City as Atelier International.  Where today, international is as sacred as before but with a more diversified body of Artists in a chemical mass of new immerging artists.

Carole Jones, Director and founder of Atelier, spoke of  Where do we go from here? First open house.
9/11 was not easy nor the reality of dealing with a whole new way to look at what we are doing.  Coming to East Harlem was a step taken to work on making our actions work with more understanding and compassion.
We of Atelier dedicate the next 15 years to that and to build within this community a prototype that has a foundation on education of the arts in the community and help transcend  more compassionate people. Working on that 1% more consciousness of the arts. We need your support and diligence in this.  Our door is open to all possibilities... Over 250 people attended the open house over the 3 hour period.  Thank you.

Her background follows from Lake Forest to Chicago, Illinois to New York City.  Asked what brought this drive?  "good question...for these years have been a difficult journey and it is not over.  Although I am not an artist but a gallerist, I have a passion that has been limitless.  My daughter questions my sense as a love affair.  And so it is for each day it gets deeper into the question of my obsession. Drive is a gift, for it is hard to come to self realization with out it.  I keep pushing the limits and again it is not over.  I am opened to new ways of doing things, new choices and a vast land in which to continue my education and share it with my community that is global to creative thinking in the arts and to our world view in our ever changing universe.

Her dedication is with her aging with universal mainstreaming and noting that uniqueness needs to prevail.  It is not about a specific location but what reaches within us all to acknowledge our changing environment and dedicated ourselves not to specifics but on going transitions for better options.
