1937 Born Matecia, Macedonia

1959 Studied at Ecole des Decoratefs de Skogje.

1960-1963  Restoration in the National Museum in Belgrade and studied art history.

1969 Emigrated to the United States.

2003 Lives and paints in Chicago and Paris.

Since 1989, I have been working on "frame-painting." Usually I choose a topic with contradiction and some meaning. Propaganda or making a statement is not the ultimate purpose. The topic is chosen for inspiration like any other topic. The meaning in the topic gives me new dimension. The "frame painting" becomes positive and negative, contradicting in itself, and unity of meaning and visual unity. I am using various materials for collages on canvas or plastic. Usually I am transferring images from newspapers on to white oil color and working over them with transparent oil color.                  Tomislav Nikolic
